Honoring America's Armed Forces
December 23, 2009
As I update all of my themes with minor changes for the upcoming release of Firefox 3.6 and get everything straightened out and fine tuned with the new addition of the Ask search extension and listings on AMO, I have many new themes in the works that I think many users will appreciate.
When I started doing themes I always had a few ideas in mind that were never quite possible. As my abilities with CSS, JavaScript, and XUL grow and my understanding of how to implement features to make things easier for those of you who use my themes those ideas are now becoming possible. One of those ideas was to make themes to honor the members of our Armed Forces. I recently had a conversation with my cousin, who is retired Air Force, and another retired member of the Marines who gave me some key information on how to move forward.
Right now things are in the design phase but I hope to have them out and ready to go very soon. If you, or a member of your family, serves in the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marines I would really appreciate feedback on how you would like these themes to look. These themes are to honor the brave men and women who fight to keep our country safe so I want to get it right and put a design together that does them the justice and honor they deserve.
I know a Firefox themes may pale in comparison to what they do for us but this is what I do and it is one way I can say “thank you”.
Psalm 118
December 13, 2009
As Christmas approaches and we continue to feel the financial burden of this past year Psalm 118 and specifically verse 1, gives comfort.
Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!
His faithful love endures forever.
More Wordpress Love
December 9, 2009
I recently came across a couple of plug-ins that allowed me to add some features to my site. I had been searching for a way to add a ratings feature to my theme listing pages as well as a simple way to add a poll to get feedback from users. I found WP-Postratings and WP-Polls. Both did exactly what I wanted them to do and as I looked through the plug-ins more closely, I noticed that both were created by the same developer. His name is Lester Chan. You can view all of his plug-ins at his website.
New Themes Coming
December 6, 2009
I have some cool new themes coming for Firefox soon. I have always wanted to do themes for the military branches so I am working on an Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines theme in honor of the brave men and women that keep our country safe.
I am also working on a theme based on the iPhone for all you iPhone fans out there. I am finishing up the icons and hope to have that ready soon. Stay tuned and follow me on twitter to know when they are ready.
My Love Hate Relationship with Christmas Lights
December 3, 2009
It is that time of year again. That means I need to get myself motivated to climb up on the roof and start putting up the lights. I love the look of Christmas lights but absolutely hate putting them up.
Before that is the task that everyone loves. I am not sure how the strands of lights that I so carefully rolled up and placed carefully in the plastic bin get so tangled up. I swear they have parties in there over the 11 1/2 months of captivity. And, how do so many lights that were working the previous year all of the sudden stop working over that 11 1/2 hibernation?
After 10 Christmases of putting these lights up on our roof I think I have finally figured out the most efficient way to hang them. It took one afternoon and didn’t actually seem that bad. I only suffered one injury when I wounded my ankle while climbing up to the 30 ft. peak of our house when my 4 year old screamed from down below (he fell down and had to let the entire neighborhood know about it).
Now, it is time to get the tree…
Auto Updates
December 2, 2009
As I am getting everything back in order after godaddy quit on me, I am noticing a few errors on auto update links. Some themes contain the link of my old listings so they may show an error message if you search for updates on your themes and extensions. I am starting to release some updates for a few themes, including updates for everyone who purchased premium themes. I will continue to provide updates for premium themes users from Firefox 3 before the release of Firefox 3.5.
I will continue to work on this to get rid of all errors and make installation and updates as smooth as possible. I appreciate the patience and the feedback from those of you who have contacted to let me know of issues. If you continue to get errors, you may need to uninstall the previous version and install the most recent.
