About Virtus
“…your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” 1 Cor 2:5
The word translated here as “power” comes from the Latin word “virtus” which means excellence, character, or power. I chose this word because it fits perfectly for how I want to live my life. In all things I do in life, including web interface development, these are the qualities strive for.
About Me
I graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Physiological Sciences, earned a Master’s of Arts in Teaching from George Fox University and for five years, worked as a high school math teacher. In the past I had thoughts about pursuing a career in the web design/IT field but the Lord always seemed to have other plans for me. I was very knowledgeable with computers but it was never more than a hobby.
I started messing around with Firefox themes about three years ago and picked it up quite easily. During that time my themes became some of the most downloaded on the Firefox Add-ons page.
This caught the attention of some people in the web design arena and one day I received a random email from Flock, a web browser built on Firefox and geared towards users of the many social networking sites.
They were looking for a theme designer and offered me a job where I worked for five months. Unfortunately, due to the economic downturn at the end of 2008, Flock had to make cuts so I am no longer with them. However, with no formal experience or training, the Lord provided me a job working for a great company getting paid for something that I was already doing for free.
The wisdom of men would say this is impossible and doesn’t make sense, but by the power of God, all things are possible even though this was only for a short time. Though I was only with Flock for five months, I learned quite a bit and expanded my understanding of the theme structure and CSS based layouts.
Since then, I have continued trying to expand my themes and partner with other developers to continue creating and developing themes into the future. Along with my themes, you will have an opportunity to install Bing, the fresh new decision from Microsoft. I am also excited to partner with the team who develops the New Tab King extension offering an ability to expand my themes into the browser window and offer you some cool functionality similar to what other browsers like Chrome and Safari offer when you open blank tabs.
