Aquatint Black

Aquatint Black Preview

This theme combines a glossy black toolbar with glassy aqua button. Due to popular demand, I have increased the size of the buttons from the previous version I had available.I have redone the tabs to make the active tab stand out better and keep the inactive tabs readable. It also has skinned preference, add-ons, and customize windows. I have gone through and fixed many issues with my themes to make them more compatible with popular extensions such as Fission, AIOS, Colorful Tabs, Feed Sidebar, Web Mail, etc. I will continue to improve compatibility with other popular extensions as issues come up.

To keep my themes free to you, I have partnered with Ask.com to include the Ask Chrome Search Extension in my browser themes. When you install this add-on, your default search engine in the browser chrome search box will be reset to Ask. By using Ask for your searches, you will help subsidize the cost needed to develop, create, and maintain my themes as I continue to improve and expand my collection. Your support will enable me to handle frequent updates, new theme requests, user support and much more. You can always switch back to another search engine later, but give Ask a try and see what you think.

All of my themes will now be Mac and Windows (as well as Linux) compatible so everyone will be able to use them regardless of which OS you are operating. I built my themes on top of the default theme for each system so it displays properly no matter which OS you are running. Previous version had issues on Mac since it was built on the PC version of the default theme.

All my themes and the Ask Chrome Search Extension are certified and guaranteed spyware free. If you have any questions, please visit my website.

Great addon, but what happened to Aquatint Black GLOSS? I can’t find a Firefox 3.5 update for it. :(

  6. Brett on December 13th, 2009 9:35 pm

Aquatint Black is the same as Aquatint Black Gloss, I dropped the Gloss. Originally, Aquatint Black was the lighter black/dark gray toolbar. That one is now Aquatint Slate.

This is my favorite firefox theme! Glad to see the update for 3.5

  8. Micke on December 26th, 2009 2:45 am

I can’t install this theme. Firefox reports an error while installing and stops the process. What’s wrong?

  9. Julien on December 29th, 2009 6:46 am

Very nice theme. But when used with Tree Style Tab, the tabs are unreadable :/

  10. Dudeman on January 15th, 2010 4:16 am

GREATEST THEME EVER! However please accept one criticism! :)
In the default Mozilla Firefox 3.5 theme, whenever you open a new tab and your tabs have already filled the entire line available, there is an arrow that lets you to scroll to the tabs that are not visible. Well, it is then when you don’t see all your tabs and you open a new tab that this arrow flashes, so that you know your new tab was opened, even though you don’t see it. Its quite helpful and comes in handy instead of scrolling till the end to see if the new tab is opened, just to click and wait for the flash and be sure its open :)
I miss this option in your theme, but am sure you will look at it for later versions :)
    Thanks!

  11. Dudeman on January 15th, 2010 4:21 am

I am sorry its not the arrow for scrolling tabs, but the icon for LIST ALL Tabs that flashes, the one that looks like a hat in yours theme :)
Just open enough tabs so that the scroll right arrow appears, then go to the first tab and try click any link with holding ctrl, then you’ll see it flash in the original theme :)

P.S. Its not necessary to publish the comments, I’d be glad to anonymously contribute :)
    Thanks! :)

This is my favorite FF theme of all time. No other design is as sleek and clean as Aquatint Black. Any chance of updating it to work with FF 3.6? I understand FF 3.6 was just released and an update my take some time, just curious.

    Thanks,
    William

I get errors on both of my computers when trying to install this theme.
    Really weird, It says:

Firefox could not install the file at
[this website + version of the theme (v3.6.1.xpi)]
    Because: Unexpected installation error
Review the error console log for more details.
    -203

Anyone got any ideas of what could fix it?
Im not sure i got the exact same message (with the numbers) at the end on my PC but thats what i got on this laptop.

Great Theme, i’ve been using it for a lot of time now. I would like to suggest that the search bar (ctrl+f) would be of the same colour of the theme, and not white.

Also, is there a plase to view a changelog of the versions?

Thanks for your hard work on the themes.

  19. Brett on January 27th, 2010 12:19 pm

I can honestly say that I have never used that before so thanks for bringing that to my attention. I will definition skin that to match the rest of the theme. It will be included in the next update. I am going to make some small changes on top of that and have it available very shortly. Thanks again.

  20. Brett on January 27th, 2010 12:21 pm

I will add a changelog that people can view. I don’t have a place now but I am in the process of organizing my site and adding features like that as I get things moving forward.

As from version 3.6 of Aquatint Black,
font style became BOLD at menu string and status-bar,
    but I don’t like it. I prefer before. (~v3.5)

Is this change parmanent in future?
If so, I have to say Goodbye to these great themes.
    I can’t bear ugly look.

By the way, v3.6 also break Addons window background
and not fixed at v3.6.2 yet.

    love

It is by far the best skin made for FireFox !
But it can be a LOT better…
You should try making the background of the Download tab BLACK !
    Easier for the eyes…
Also the Url bar and the google bar can be also black backgrounded with white letters…
You should also consider making a black background for a new generated blank tab.
The buttons are perfect… but they are very small, can you make them bigger, please? I think the blue ribbon connecting the previous and back buttons, and the transparency in the pull down menus are unessasary…
Other than that minor details, the skin is perfect, and I can’t revert back using any other skin…
There are all suggestions by me, so as long as I am just one person you might not consider my opinion worthy… but I thought I should give it a try ! Thank you again for this nice skin !

  26. MauroG on April 9th, 2010 8:15 am

    @Dio

    You are lucky, I’ve found the ver 3.0.1 in my old cpu, here you go;
    http://www.mediafire.com/?ytyyixeizdg
Be aware that it only works in Firfeox 2
    ———————————————————————————-
Changing subjects, is there a way to fix Addons backround window, as far as I know, it only happens to a few.

  27. UncleB on August 12th, 2010 8:49 pm

    Also my favorite theme.

In the latest update my menus have changed to grey with black text instead of black with white text. Was this supposed to happen? I prefer them black.

Other than that keep up the good work. Awesome theme.

  28. Brett on August 12th, 2010 8:56 pm

I did do this by design. Because this theme is used with Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and several variations of Linux there were always display issues when I created black pop-up windows with white text. I decided to keep things as simple as possible so they work with default settings.

It is easy to change back and customize it on your own, however, using the userChrome.css file. I will work on some tutorials soon to let people know how to do that. Using the userChrome.css file, you can override/customize settings such as the drop down menus. I will post a blog about it when I have them ready and make them available in my user forum. Check back in a couple of weeks or follow my RSS or twitter feeds.

    Round of applause for Brett.

Thank-you for the reply and thank-you for the upcoming guides.

Really what else can I say, ;)
